How the Ball Ground Garden Club Champions Environmental Stewardship

The Ball Ground Garden Club has made impressive strides in supporting the environment by embracing the principles of reducing, reusing, and recycling throughout the year. Members separated trash and recyclables during events and chose compostable serving items to help minimize landfill waste. After their Halloween celebration, instead of discarding pumpkins, we donate them to a local farm animal rescue, while straw decorations were either reused as mulch or provided for horse bedding.

The club's commitment extends to textile recycling, with ongoing collections of coats, hats, and gloves for foster children and seniors. Collaborating with our local Chief of Police, these donations ensure gently used items avoid landfills. In partnership with the Boy Scouts, members also participate in community litter cleanups, further reducing environmental impact.

During the Christmas Parade, the club decorated a float using only secondhand and repurposed materials, such as flowerpots turned into Christmas bells and an artificial tree instead of a live one. Even their garden light displays operated on timers to conserve energy. Through these creative initiatives, the Ball Ground Garden Club inspires both members and the community to find innovative ways to care for the Earth beyond basic recycling, setting a strong example of practical environmental stewardship.
